Can the earths rotatio change from counter clockwise?

Hey, the rotates in the counter clockwise direction i read somewhere that people theorized that the earth could change its direction of rotation; i just wanted to know is there any backing behind this? Also if it did happen what would be the effects? im just curious. Thanks.
